How Tactical Identity Drives Recruitment.
A lot has been said about England’s supposed lack of identity, player selection and team cohesion in their current European Championship campaign. I’m sure there are a long list of arguments that can be made as to why the team has not reached its max performance potential so far. Squad planning and balance is critical to any successful organization – especially if you want to progress deep into a knockout tournament. However, having a clear tactical identity [or at least a set or core principles] that defines how you want your team to play is just as critical. Successful recruitment is not only about selecting the best players, it lives or dies on the ability of those players to carry out the actions that define their positional role in the team. In short, a defined and codified identity allows you to measure how successful the team [and therefore the individual] is in relation to organizational goals, holds people accountable and puts tangible value on any potential recruit you may be looking to transfer in or out.
